From $3,500/Month to $18,000/Month: My FinTech Data & AI PM Consultant Story
How I went from $3,500 a month to $18,000 a month take-home as a FinTech Data & AI project management consultant — and the exact path I used.
This is the story of how I went from $3,500 a month take-home to $18,000 a month as a FinTech Data & AI Project Management consultant.
It started when I was 15. I wanted to be a professional bodybuilder. I trained hard, then learned you basically need steroids to go pro. Dreams shattered. I quit training and drifted, but the desire to win never died. I wanted freedom, money, the ability to work, travel, collect cars, and eventually build companies. I just didn’t know how.
So I went to school and finished a degree in aerospace engineering. I picked it because it sounded like the hardest thing I could do — therefore it should pay the most. Wrong. Small field, few jobs. I pivoted into software because that’s where the jobs were.
I landed at a transit operations company. Dead end again. I was stuck at $3,500 a month — enough for student loans, a $500 rusty Toyota, and more dreaming. This wasn’t it. I wanted to feel like a champion.
One day I was at Miami-Dade Transit headquarters doing software requirements gathering. I asked the PM consultant there, “How much do you get paid?” He grinned and said “$18,000 a month take-home.” Four times what I was making, and he always looked happy. That was the moment.
I quit my job. I dedicated 12 hours a day, 7 days a week to figuring this out. I tutored, fixed cars and motorcycles, studied constantly. I even created a recruiter account on Indeed so I could collect the best PM consultant resumes, reverse-engineer what they actually did, and map a path.
It wasn’t well-defined at first, but I eventually documented the process.
My first contract: junior PM at Scotiabank. $8,000 a month take-home — double my previous job.
Six months later I moved to a trade settlement company. $12,000 a month. More than a lot of entry-level doctors and lawyers. Most of these contracts were fully remote. I started traveling, bought the sports cars I always wanted, and saved money to start a business.
Next: $14,000 a month at Morgan Stanley. Then $18,000 a month at Canada Life. My inbox stayed flooded with offers.
These roles sit at the intersection of data, FinTech, and AI project management. That’s the lane I now help other professionals enter.
